| 6'02" x 9' Bamyan Item# 20000126 Bamyan is a city in central Afghanistan, northwest of Kabul. For more than a millennium Bamyan has served as an important stop along the Silk Road, allowing travelers and traders to refuel and rest in its high altitude green valleys before they continued across the central Afghan highlands. During this time Bamyan became a center for religion, philosophy and art. The Bamyan rugs we carry, finely woven and highly decorative, are woven by Turkmen weavers in Northern Afghanistan and by Turkmen refugees living in Pakistan. Woven in very high knot counts, the designs of these pieces are mainly decorative 19th century designs from Iran. |
