| 6' x 8'10" Sultanabad Item# 2039 The city of Arak, Iran, roughly 200 miles southwest of the capital Tehran, was formerly known as Sultanabad. Rug production in this area dates back hundreds if not thousands of years. Fanciful Persian designs of the 16th and 17th centuries were toned down in the region with softer palettes and spacious all-over patterns. These designs feature floral palmettes and trellises intertwined across the whole field. What is common to almost all rugs of the Arak/Ferahan region is the curvilinear design and the herati motif, two of the most universal designs among all Persian rugs. All of the rugs from this region are of a medium-fine to fine weave, and tend to be fairly thin even when new. |
