| 6'01" x 9'01" Mahal Item# 1636 Mahal, named for the town of Mahallat, are produced in the area near Arak, Iran (formerly Sultanabad). Its name denotes quality rather than the origin or the design of the rug. Interestingly, Mahal rugs and carpets are found with both tribal and curvilinear motifs. This attribute derives from the unique position Mahallat between the cities of Arak and Delijan, on the path of the tribal people of southern Iran. The general design of Mahals includes curvilinear patterns and the use of floral palmettes and the herati motif, two of the most universal designs among all Persian rugs. Rugs from this region are of a medium-fine to fine weave, and tend to be fairly short-piled even when new. |
